AMBITIOUS Ryan Garry emphasised his belief that he can help Cherries achieve success this season after pledging his future to the club.

Centre-half Garry pointed to boss Eddie Howe and the team’s progress as key factors in his decision to agree terms on a new two-and-a-half year contract.

The fresh deal, which comes hot on the heels of similar extensions for Marvin Bartley and Liam Feeney, rewards the former Arsenal trainee for the consistent performances that have contributed to Cherries’ lofty League Two status.

And the 26-year-old, initially signed by Kevin Bond in August 2007, was happy to commit himself to the promotion-chasing club.

He told the Echo: “I think we’ve got a good chance of achieving something this year and hopefully that comes good at the end of the season.

“I feel under Eddie we’ve done really well from the start of 2009. I think we’ve done well this season to this point and I think we all believe we can do better.

“If you ask any player, they would say they want to be at a club where you can achieve something.

“I was very happy to sign and I am sure we can achieve something good here.”

Cherries boss Howe, who described Garry as “an excellent professional”, urged the defensive star to continue his good work at Dean Court.

“He’s been very consistent and has formed an excellent centre-back pairing with Jason Pearce,” said Howe.

“Following in the footsteps of the other boys this week, it’s really good news for the club that he’s committed his future to us.

“I think he deserves the contract and it is reward for his outstanding performances.”

When asked what challenges were ahead of Garry, Howe added: “To continue to improve, like the other lads who have signed contracts this week.

“That’s not a chance for them to sit back and relax, it’s a chance for them to push forward even more.

“Ryan is still relatively inexperienced in terms of games, despite being a good age. He’s got to continue to develop, but he will because that’s the type of lad he is because he’s always one of the last players off the training pitch and works extremely hard.”

Garry, who is ruled out of today’s League Two clash against Macclesfield at Dean Court (3pm) by a groin injury, has featured in 31 games this season.

In last Saturday’s Echo, he earned praise from former Cherries favourite John Williams, who underlined the importance of a solid central defensive pairing, having seen Garry and Pearce build up an effective partnership.
