CHAPEL Gate new boy Frazer WilFord believes Bournemouth’s players will have no excuses if they don’t clinch promotion this season.

The 22-year-old hooker switched from Havant to the Lions in the summer and has played every minute of his new club’s National Three South West campaign.

Wilford enjoyed plenty of National Three South experience with the Hampshire outfit before their relegation at the end of last term and the summer reorganisation of the league pyramid.

So he is well placed to assess the ambitious Dorset club’s hopes of moving up the ladder.

Asked if he felt Bournemouth were equipped to go up, Wilford said: “The coaching and backroom staff are there. It’s just down to the players on Saturdays now.

“The only thing that will let us down is the players. Everything else is in place.

“Besides, it’s great working with people like Junior Paramore.

“JP expects high standards every week and he’ll let you know if you don’t achieve those high standards, which is great.”

Wilford lines up in a crunch league clash at Redingensians tomorrow as fifth-placed Lions look to leapfrog a team one point above them in the table.

The Southampton-based PE teacher said: “It’s going to be a tough game. They’ve already beaten Chinnor, who beat us at home, this season.

“But every weekend is a challenge. It’s not anything different. We’re not going to worry about that too much. We’ll just worry about ourselves, but our win against Reading has given us some confidence.

“The standard in this league is a lot higher than I anticipated. The clubs in the league above actually look down on this division and feel they are superior.

“In the league above, it’s almost like two leagues within a league because of the finances, but in this division anyone can beat anyone on their day.

“Chinnor have lost two matches already but their squad is actually stronger than last season, so it just shows the strength of this division is really high.

“So I’m happy I made the move because the boys are a great bunch of lads.”

Callum Forrest is named in Lions’ squad, but is waiting for scan results on a possible broken nose.

Lions: Wareham, Wilford, Manning, Seward, Forrest, Le Roux, Kiely, Ford, Maidment, Ngapaku, Chislett, Stewart, Pope, Hearson, Davies. Subs: Ketchley, Lynch, Higgins.
