MARCO Rose knows it is important that the Cherries get their first Premier League victory of the season under their belts ahead of the international break.

Bournemouth have two opportunities to do so, with home games against Brentford this weekend and Liverpool next weekend.

In between those games is Rose’s side’s European game, as they travel to Real Sociedad next Thursday.

Rose was asked how key it would be to get three points on the board before the break, with an intense schedule of European, league and cup games after the extended break.

He said: “It's important. I would love to have it done already, but it's not the case, so we need to work for it.

“We have to stick together, we have to believe in it. It is what it is in football, and if you start a season, if you win your first game, it's like, okay, now we can go.

“So we need to do it and I think a home game with our fans is a big chance to do it and always the next game is a chance to win games, to change things, to change situations and as we showed and as I said, we are quite confident.”

Brentford will be a tough opponent, with Bournemouth’s most recent league victory against the Bees coming back in August 2014.

That was in the Championship, with Bournemouth yet to beat their west London opponents in the Premier League.

They have won once since that win twelve years ago, but that was in the first leg of the Championship play-off semi-final in 2021, which Bournemouth went on to lose on aggregate after a 3-1 defeat at the Gtech Community Stadium.

On the club’s poor record against their visitors, Rose said: “At the end, it's a Premier League game, so an important one against a tough opponent.

“It's Brentford. Okay, we didn't beat them for a long time.

“But we know that we are able to do it and that's the only thing we think about, to get our first win in the Premier League this season.

“We played well so far, most of the games, but now we have to reward ourselves with the win at home.”
