POOLE Town boss Matt Tubbs believes his side have even more to give, stating that they are yet to get out of “third or fourth gear.”

Dolphins are looking for back-to-back league wins for just the second time under Tubbs when they face Chesham United at home tomorrow (3pm), after defeating lowly Tiverton Town 2-0 on Tuesday night.

Whilst Tubbs has recorded more wins than losses in his first eight games, he admitted that Dolphins required more consistency – but added that he was confident improved performances were around the corner.

He told the Daily Echo: “I've come in here I want to be successful.

“I want the group that I'm with to be successful.

“I think the beauty of it is I don't even feel as if we've got out of third or fourth gear yet.

“I think there's so much more to give.

“And yes, we've had a couple of disappointing results, but we've had some positive ones as well.

“Like I said, I think we've still got two more gears to go.

“I said previously to the staff, I think it's only a matter of time before we end up it all clicking in one game, and we end up winning a game four, five, or 6-0, and I think that will come.”

“I said to the lads then it's the level of consistency that we need to have now.

“We can't be that team that wins one, loses one, draws one.

“We have to be a team which is consistent enough, that's going to pick up points week in, week out. “If we do that, we have a good last half and plus of the season to go pick them up.”

Just four points separate the two sides in the Southern League Premier South table, although fourth-placed Chesham enjoy a game in hand over Poole, who sit seventh.

Both teams finished inside the play-offs last term, with Chesham and Poole expected to be in the promotion picture come April.

Discussing Chesham, Tubbs continued: “(Chesham were) towards the top end of the table for a reason.

“So we know it's going to be a tough test.

“But if we control the game like we did (against Tiverton) and play at our tempo.

"I think we're a match for anyone in the league, let alone Chesham.

“We saw the league leaders Gosport come here.

“We had a game plan against them and we ended up 2-0 winners.

“We've already got a game plan against Chesham which we will implement on Saturday.”
