POOLE Town ended up on the wrong side of a six-goal thriller at Basingstoke Town, losing 4-2 in Hampshire.
Daniel Rowe’s early opener for the hosts was quickly cancelled out by an own goal, the two sides equal at the break.
But shortly after the restart Basingstoke took the lead for a second time through Bradley Wilson, Rowe stretching it further with his second 25 minutes from time.
Harvey Wright’s 88th minute strike gave Poole hope, but the game’s final goal would be scored by Basingstoke, substitute Noah Chengun making sure of the result deep into stoppage time.
Manager Matt Tubbs made two changes to the side 3-1 winners over Sholing in the FA Trophy last time out, Luke Nippard and Destiny Ojo dropping out to be replaced by Billy Lowes and Luke Pardoe respectively.
After taking an eighth minute lead, Basingstoke nearly made it two moments later, provider for the first goal Dan Rowe smacking the post.
Even after going behind again in the second period, Poole enjoyed more possession, but were unable to create clear cut chances against a clinical Basingstoke team.
The result leaves Poole seventh in the Southern League Premier South table, four points behind Basingstoke with three games in hand.
Dolphins: Evans; Rose, Whisken, Wright, Hutchinson; Murray, Lowes (Samadi, 90+3), Fogden; Pardoe (Ojo, 63), Lee, Holmes (Fletcher, 83).
Unused subs: Nippard, Bertrand.
