GLASGOW Tigers produced a stunning late comeback to book their spot in the SGB Championship grand final against Poole Pirates.

Tigers needed to overturn a 10-point deficit against Oxford Cheetahs to progress and found themselves six points down on the night at Ashfield.

However, three 5-1s in the final four heats saw Glasgow storm to a 52-38 win, gaining the vital aggregate bonus point.

Former Pirates star Benjamin Basso led the charge, scoring 13+1 from five rides.

Glasgow will now host Pirates in the first leg of the final at Ashfield on Friday, before the second leg at Wimborne Road next Wednesday (both 7.30pm).

Tigers team boss Cami Brown said: “We had a team meeting just before heat 11. I said to the boys ‘we need four heat advantages, we can do this, we’ve done it all season’.

“To be honest, I didn’t see us getting 5-1s in heat 12 and 13. Before we knew it, we were in the box seat.

“I think Oxford rode really well all night. Towards the end they wobbled a tad because that was the first time we had put pressure on them over the two ties.

“We never gave up. This team never gives in. They have proved they have the character to go all the way.”

Pirates beat Glasgow in the 2021 league final, as well as this year’s BSN Series final.
