POOLE Pirates will begin their play-off campaign at home against Scunthorpe Scorpions on Wednesday.

Pirates secured top spot in the SGB Championship after Oxford Cheetahs failed to overhaul them, beaten by Glasgow Tigers in their final league fixture.

Courtesy of finishing top, Poole, who finished with 35 points from their 16 outings, a point clear of Oxford, get to select their play-off opponents.

This year sees the top six clubs compete in two group stages, before the winner of each progresses into the grand final.

And Pirates have opted to take on sixth-placed Edinburgh Monarchs and Scunthorpe, having beaten both home and away during the season.

Group B will comprise of Oxford, Glasgow Tigers and Redcar Bears.

And it has been confirmed Poole will begin their group against the Scorpions at Wimborne Road this Wednesday.

They then host Edinburgh on September 20, before going to Scunthorpe two days later and rounding things off at Armadale on September 29 (all 7.30pm).

Pirates promoter Danny Ford said: “I have to say that, on current form, the teams we have avoided are in an extremely tough group, but that was our reward for finishing top in that we had the choice.

“Nevertheless, everything is reset now and we go again with the target of winning the group.”

Pirates are seeking a trophy treble, having already won the BSN Series and booked their place in the Knockout Cup final.
