JIM Frevola says introducing areas of safe standing for fans at Vitality Stadium is “absolutely on our radar”.

Following the Hillsborough disaster which saw 97 Liverpool fans killed in 1989, legislation saw all-seater stadiums brought in.

In recent years, there has been a desire from within the English footballing world to allow for ‘safe standing’ in certain parts of grounds to help improve atmospheres.

Those proposals were approved ahead of the 2022-23 season, with various clubs taking up the option to include it in their grounds.

Cherries are yet to join that list, but the club’s president of business admits it is something he would “love to see” at Vitality Stadium.

Asked for the club’s stance on safe standing, Frevola told afcbTV: “We understand that there is a desire out there. I’m new to the football world over in this country and in this league.

“It’s interesting, because it was such a negative years ago. There was the tragedy that happened 30 or so years ago. But I think if you do it right, there is a positive to it.

“It’s not something we can do this year. There’s just not enough time in the off-season, there’s a lot of investment that would have to go into equipment and technology to put in the bars and if we do that, we have to do that for the away end as well.

“It is absolutely on our radar. It is something we’ve talked about. We’ve talked about it with supporter groups. I would love to see it.

“I promise when we know, I will let you know.”
