CHERRIES have confirmed that Junior Stanislas will depart the club at the expiry of his contract this summer.

Affectionately nicknamed ‘June’ by fans and players alike, winger Stanislas leaves Cherries after just shy of a decade service on the south coast.

Brought to the club by Eddie Howe in 2014 after working with the manager at previous side Burnley, in nine years at Vitality Stadium, the 33-year-old made 178 appearances for the club, scoring 38 times.

Blighted by injury in his final seasons with Cherries, former West Ham man Stanislas made just four Premier League appearances last term, with all 57 of his league minutes coming before the World Cup break in November.

A myriad of different issues meant the two-time England under-21 international was not named in a squad after Cherries defeated Everton in the league back in November, with the winger’s last appearance – and goal – coming days before, against the same opponents in the league cup.

Stanislas is one of just two Cherries to have been a part of both squads that won promotion from the Championship, winning the division in 2014/15 alongside Adam Smith before the pair played their part in helping Cherries up for a second time in the 2021/22 campaign.

Chief executive Neill Blake told Cherries’ website: “One of our longest serving players, we wish Junior nothing but the best for what comes next.

“He’s played a massive part in helping the club get to where we are today and his talent and dedication has been an inspiration for those around him.

“We appreciate all of his hard work both on and off the pitch, with his excellent work in the community also a huge testament to his character.”

Jefferson Lerma, Jack Stacey, and Jordan Zemura have also been confirmed by Cherries to be departing the Vitality at the expiry of their contracts this summer.

Whilst not currently in the first-team picture, having spent the season on loan at League One Shrewsbury Town, Christian Saydee is another Cherry whose deal expires at the end of the season.
