CHERRIES stalwart Adam Smith described the atmosphere at Goodison Park on the final day “one of the best” he has played in.

With Premier League survival at stake for Everton, their fans filled the surrounding streets with noise and flares hours before kick-off.

That level of support was matched inside the ground, with Goodison at fever pitch during the first-half, booing and whistling every touch of a Cherries player in order to give their side an edge.

There was a roar of relief when Abdoulaye Doucoure scored the game's only goal in the 57th minute.

Talking to the Daily Echo after the game, Smith shared his frustration at the defeat.

He said: “Should have got a result.

“Referee was kind of their side, to be honest.

“Like time wasting and not hurrying them up, and little free kicks always went their way.

“So, frustrating to lose the game.

“Obviously (the atmosphere) helped them, it's going to help any team.

“Thought we’d done well in certain stages of the game, but need to be a little bit more clinical.”

Cherries looked to keep the ball in a bid to take the sting out of the affair throughout the game.

However, Smith admitted that their control on the pitch had no impact on the fans in the stands.

“It just didn’t quieten down. One of the best atmospheres I’ve played in.”
