IN-FORM Pirates star Ben Cook insists there is “no reason” why Poole cannot repeat the result they achieved earlier in the season at Sandy Lane when they head back there tomorrow.

Pirates face Oxford Cheetahs in a tasty double-header this week in the Knockout Cup semi-finals, visiting Cowley on Tuesday night, before welcoming them back to Wimborne Road on Wednesday (both 7.30pm).

Poole have already got the better of Oxford twice this season, winning home and away against them in the BSN Series, including an impressive 46-43 victory on the road in April.

And heat leader Cook has his eye on further success.

He said: “It’s a good little track and obviously they’ve got a good team.

“They’re going to go there to win, as we are.

“We had a good meeting there at the start of the year, so there’s no reason why we can’t do it again.”

Anders Rowe returned to Pirates action last week, having missed a couple of recent meetings due to injury and international commitments.

The 21-year-old scored 6+1 in Wednesday’s 49-41 Championship opening win over Scunthorpe Scorpions.

Looking ahead to the meetings with Oxford, Rowe said: “I’ve only ridden it once and that was at the start of the year.

“It will be good to get two meetings in two days. It will be tough, Oxford are a good side but we’ve got to push and hopefully we can get the win in both.”

Poole are hopeful star man Richard Lawson will be fit to return, after suffering chest injuries in a crash whilst riding for Leicester Lions last week. He missed the win over Scunthorpe.

Meanwhile, Oxford are again set to boast power-packed heat leader trio Sam Masters, Scott Nicholls and Lewis Kerr.

Oxford: Masters, Heeps, Kerr, Jenkins, Nicholls, Atkins, Kinsley.

Pirates: Worrall, Rowe, B Cook, Z Cook, Lawson, Newman, Roynon.
