BOURNEMOUTH’S league campaign ended with a 29-10 loss at Banbury.

Ed Phillips sneaked over for a try for the hosts early on, the lead extended to 12-0 with Quinten Blythe running in.

The onslaught continued with a rolling maul ending in a try by Nick Agbo, the Bulls powering into a 19-0 advantage.

Lions came back into the contest, winning a penalty at the 30-metre line, which ended in an Adam Higgins try, converted by Grant Hancox.

The comeback continued, with arrears reduced to 19-10 as Hancox kicked over a penalty before the half was out.

Bournemouth’s momentum was halted after the restart, collecting two yellow cards in quick succession with both Ryan Morrell and Conrad Carkeet forced off.

Banbury took advantage of the numerical boost, Jacob Turner crossing the line.

The lead extended to 24-10, with Bournemouth unable to turn later territory into points.

Banbury had time for one more try, Jack Briggs sprinting 40 metres to score in the corner.

Lions finish the Regional 1 South Central season in seventh place.

The fixture also marked the last in a Bournemouth shirt for club stalwart Alan Manning.

Bournemouth now turn their attentions to cup competitions in April, with the Nomads and Wanderers in action.
