EARLIER reports that former Cherry Christian Atsu had been rescued following the earthquake in Turkey have been denied by the winger’s current club, Hatayspor.

The Ghanian FA had previously tweeted that the 31-year-old had been found following reports in Turkish media.

However, Hatayspor club doctor Gurbey Kahveci was unable to find Atsu following claims he had been taken to a nearby hospital.

He told Turkish outlet Hurriyet: “When we heard the news that he was taken to Dortyol Hospital, we especially went and looked, but (he) was not there.

“At the moment, we accept that (Hatayspor sporting director) Taner Savut and Christian Atsu were not found (on Monday night), unfortunately.”

Atsu had a one-year spell at Cherries on loan from Chelsea during their debut Premier League season, featuring twice in the League Cup.
