A DEAL for Nicolas Jackson to move from Villarreal to Cherries has broken down, the Daily Echo understands.

Last week, the two clubs agreed a fee, believed to be around £21million, for the Senegal international.

The 21-year-old, who was also reportedly of interest to other Premier League clubs including Southampton, then headed to England to undergo a medical.

Jackson has missed Villarreal’s past four matches due to hip and hamstring injury concerns, an issue Cherries knew of prior to making a move for the player.

As such, a more thorough medical examination was booked in to fully assess the damage.

Upon closer inspection, it became apparent Jackson would be ruled out through injury for longer than first anticipated, leading to Cherries pulling the plug on the deal.

Meanwhile, Cherries have been pursuing deals for two players from Roma.

Italy international Nicolo Zaniolo, who scored the winning goal in last season’s Europa Conference League final, is a player of interest.

But finalising a deal for the 23-year-old is proving difficult, despite an apparent falling out between the player and his current club. Zaniolo had reportedly been keen on a switch to AC Milan, but they were unable to match Cherries’ bid, said to be around £26million.

Zaniolo’s Roma teammate, Matias Vina, is close to completing a loan move to Cherries.

A deal is not expected to be wrapped up by the end of the weekend, but there is hope he will be in place by the 11pm Tuesday transfer deadline.

It has been suggested Roma are keen to find a replacement for Vina, before allowing him to leave.
