CHERRIES have agreed a deal to take Matias Viña on loan from Serie A side Roma, the Daily Echo understands.

The Uruguayan will join Cherries initially on loan until the end of the campaign, with reports suggesting that there is a clause in the deal enabling the Dorset club to make the move permanent.

That is according to Sky Sports, who claim that there is no obligation for Cherries to purchase Viña at the end of the loan. They also report that the loan fee will cost Cherries €1 million.

Since starting his career with Nacional in his native Uruguay, Viña has played in Brazil and Italy. He became a continental champion whilst with Palmeiras, lifting the South American equivalent of the Champions League, the Copa Libertadores.

Capped 28 times by Uruguay, including two appearances at the World Cup in Qatar, Viña has become a bit-part player for Roma this campaign, after helping the Italian giants to the UEFA Europa Conference League last term.

In total he has made 44 appearances for Roma, including playing four times in this year’s UEFA Europa League.

Primarily a left-back, the 25-year-old has at times been deployed as a left-winger and on occasion, at centre-back.
