DEVELOPMENT squad skipper Ben Greenwood and interim head coach Bruce Suraci have hailed goalkeeper Cameron Plain.

First-choice for the under-23s, Plain has recently been serving as back-up to Mark Travers in the first team due to the absence of Neto, who is recovering from a hamstring injury.

Plain pulled off an array of fine saves against Brighton in Cherries’ Premier League Cup defeat to Brighton last weekend, with Suraci pleased with other aspects of his game besides shot-stopping.

Suraci told the Daily Echo: "He’s a great lad who has been with us through the academy.

"He is technically very good, he’s aggressive, he reads the game well and communicates well.

"Cam has been brilliant with us in training so, to be honest, I wouldn’t have expected anything different."

Like Plain, captain Greenwood has been training with Gary O’Neil’s first-team squad.

Asked if he could see improvements to Plain’s game after being involved in Premier League matchdays, Greenwood stated: "Every time you are exposed to it, you grow a bit.

"When you come back down as such, because Cam has been with them for so long, you come back down with that presence.

"Being in the back line (against Brighton), you could feel the presence behind you whether that was with his voice or how commanding he was.

"He’s a great goalie and I didn’t expect anything less from him."
