KIEFFER Moore shared how he “knew what (he) had to do” after coming on at half-time during Wales’ World Cup opener.

Wales trailed the US by a goal to nil at the break after Timothy Weah converted in the 36th minute following significant American pressure.

The Welsh were a transformed side after the break, in large part due to Moore leading the line.

The 30-year-old was able to hold the ball up more effectively than Dan James, the forward he replaced, allowing Wales to hem the US inside their own half for large swathes of the game.

Cymru’s pressure eventually told, Gareth Bale winning a penalty that he dispatched to ensure the spoils were shared.

After the game, Moore told the BBC: “It was a tough game.

“I knew what I had to do, had to assert myself onto the game. Thankfully we’ve came away with a point.

“It’s a good point, a good start for us, it’s good momentum.”

Asked if he had a point to prove after being left out of the starting XI, Moore was diplomatic, stating: “Not necessarily, no.

“We’re all in this together. I just did what was best for the team.”
