GARY O’Neil played down Lewis Cook’s first return to boyhood club Leeds United this weekend, insisting: “It’s about the team.”

Cook joined Leeds’ academy as a schoolboy, going on to play 85 times for the club’s first team.

He left to join Cherries in the summer of 2016 for £6million and has featured 163 times, under five different managers.

Cook is expected to keep his spot in the starting XI when Cherries head to Elland Road on Saturday (3pm).

Discussing the 25-year-old’s return to Yorkshire, interim head coach O’Neil said: “I always felt there was a little bit of you that wants to do well in that game.

“But you always want to do well anyway.

“It’s about the team. Lewis Cook has been brilliant for us since I took over in the Wolves game.

“He’s been an integral part of every performance we’ve put in.

“He’ll be big again for us on Saturday, I’m sure.”

Cook has featured in all 14 of Cherries’ fixtures in league and cup so far this season, starting 12.

Cherries sit 14th in the Premier League table, one place and one point ahead of Jesse Marsch’s Whites.
