THERE has been another big shift in the betting markets for the incoming Cherries manager overnight, with Middlesbrough boss Chris Wilder shooting up to become favourite with the bookies.

Incumbent interim boss Gary O’Neil had been odds-on favourite on Sunday, but overnight, Wilder had shortened to 1/5. Over the course of this morning, with SkyBet now listing Wilder at 1/3 to take the job.

The Northern Echo reports that there has been “no formal approach” from Cherries to Boro regarding Wilder, with the 55-year-old expected to take training this week for the Championship side.

Last season he was heavily linked with a move to Burnley whilst they were still battling relegation from the Premier League.

The former Sheffield United manager refused to rule out a switch to Turf Moor, in stark contrast to speculation linking him to the south coast.

When Scott Parker was initially sacked by Cherries at the end of August, Wilder came out with clear quotes indicated how he was set to stay at the Riverside.

He said at the time: “I’m not going anywhere.

“I enjoy working at the football club as you’ve seen.

“We are working extremely hard in terms of what we are trying to do and what we are trying to achieve.

“You can’t stop speculation. You just have to ride with it and go with it.”

Boro are currently languishing in the relegation zone of the second tier, with 10 points from their first 10 games leaving them 22nd.
