BEN Greenwood has a free weekend after leading Cherries’ development side to a win on Friday night – with the left-back looking to fill his time with a trip to a non-league game.

Skipper Greenwood popped up with the winning goal against Derby County at the Vitality Stadium, completing a 2-1 comeback after Jack Stephens’ sublime solo goal restored parity.

After loan spells with Dorset clubs Poole Town and Weymouth, Greenwood has made some connections at local non-league clubs, and when his schedule allows, he finds himself in terraces watching his former teammates.

When asked if he had any plans to take in local football, Greenwood told the Daily Echo: “I have to have a look to see who's playing to be fair!

“Because after my loan spell at the Dolphins, I love going down there, I'm still mates with all the boys there.

“Even if Weymouth are playing, I'll try to get down there.

“I haven't got any plans yet, but come 3pm tomorrow and I'm sat in my room and I'm bored, I probably will make my way down to somewhere.

“I just love going out and watching the football. Especially when you're like you've got a link in there somewhere.

“They're all so welcoming when I do go there.”

Reflecting on the win over Derby, Greenwood added: “I think obviously to concede in the manner that we did so early on, we were obviously disappointed, but I thought the boys reacted really well.

"In the first half I thought we had numerous chances to score, couldn't quite put the finishing touch on.

"I didn't think they had much in the first half other than scoring from a set-piece, we dealt with them quite well.

"We remained calm at the half time break and we knew 1-0 we were still well in it, kept to our principles and once we got that goal back, the belief just went phew.

"To get the winning is a great feeling, but I think the lads stuck to it today and I'm really proud of them."
