INTERIM boss Gary O’Neil has been recognised for his job done so far as stand-in Cherries head coach – with a nomination for the Premier League’s Manager of the Month award.

Although his first game came at the end of August, O’Neil has remained unbeaten as a manager in September, leading Cherries to a remarkable comeback win away at Nottingham Forest before picking up a deserved point away at St James’ Park against Newcastle at the weekend.

Since taking over as interim boss, O’Neil has picked up five of Cherries’ eight points so far this season, with half of that total stemming from their September fixtures.

Erik tan Hag has been nominated for Manchester United’s two wins in that same timeframe, with a narrow 1-0 win away at Leicester to start September followed by a convincing 3-1 defeat of league leaders Arsenal.

The other manager nominated, Tottenham Hotspur’s Antonio Conte, also has a perfect record from the two September fixtures, with Spurs edging past Cherries’ fellow newly promoted side Fulham 2-1, before thumping Leicester City 6-2 courtesy of a Heung Min Son hat-trick.

Fans will be able to vote for O’Neil via the Premier League website up until midday on Monday, September 26.

The vote will be combined with those of a panel of football experts to decide the winner.
