RYAN Christie helped his country to a comfortable win over Ukraine in the Nations League, with the Scots top of Group B1 after a 3-0 victory at Hampden.

Cherries winger Christie played 85 minutes of the contest as the Scots corrected the wrongs of the summer, when they tasted defeat in the World Cup playoff semi-finals at the hands of the Ukrainians.

The hosts left it late to find their goals, with Aston Villa midfielder John McGinn opening scores after 70 minutes.

Former Cherry Ryan Fraser came off the bench to combine with fellow substitute Lyndon Dykes twice to put gloss on the final scoreline.

Victory for the Scots not only puts them into first place, pushing them closer to potential promotion, but also to securing a playoff spot for the EUROs in 2024.

They are now two points clear of Ukraine after four matches played, meaning that if they avoid defeat in their final two games, they are guaranteed promotion to the top-tier of the Nations League.

Scotland are next in action on Saturday, when they host the Republic of Ireland, with a potential matchup between Cherries teammates Christie and Mark Travers.

The Scots’ international window comes to a close when they visit Poland next Tuesday to face Ukraine in the return fixture.

Christie has now made 32 appearances for Scotland since his debut in 2017, scoring four times.
