PREMIER LEAGUE legend Alan Shearer has praised Cherries goalkeeper Neto for keeping his favoured Newcastle United out at the weekend, selecting the Brazilian international in his team of the week.

The former Barcelona man made six saves to deny the hosts on multiple occasions, allowing Cherries to come away from St James’ with a precious point. No goalkeeper made more saves at the weekend, with Tottenham’s Hugo Lloris coming closest with five, conceding two goals in a 6-2 romp of Leicester City.

Interestingly, Neto was the only player selected not to have won at the weekend, highlighting his performance in the 1-1 draw on Tyneside.

Manchester City stars Jack Grealish, Kevin De Bruyne and Ruben Dias were all recognised whilst Arsenal trio William Saliba, Granit Xhaka, and Gabriel Jesus were also included in Shearer’s XI after both teams recorded 3-0 away wins at Wolves and Brentford respectively.

Heung Min Son was also chosen following his 13 minute hat-trick against Leicester, Fulham’s João Palhinha recognised for his strike against Nottingham Forest, with Everton duo Alex Iwobi and James Tarkowski also included.

Explaining his reasoning for including Neto, Shearer detailed: "Gave his team confidence in everything he did. Came and collected so many crosses."

The Premier League’s all-time leading goalscorer also voiced his opinion of the game at the final whistle on Saturday, congratulating Cherries whilst bemoaning the Magpies’ inability to win the game.

He tweeted: “Didn’t do enough to win today. Poor performance from the Toon. Well done Bournemouth.”
