INTERIM boss Gary O'Neil believes a season on loan at Shrewsbury Town "will be really good" for Christian Saydee.
The young striker completed a season-long switch to Steve Cotterill's Shrews on transfer deadline day.
He has already made his debut, coming off the bench in a 2-0 win over Forest Green Rovers in League One.
There had been some calls for Cherries to keep Saydee as part of their squad, after he impressed in the Carabao Cup win at Norwich City last month, having been handed his first start for the club.
But O'Neil, who himself spent time out on loan at Walsall and Cardiff City during his fledgling years at Portsmouth, believes joining Shrewsbury will be shrewd move for the 20-year-old.
"It will be good for him," O'Neil told the Daily Echo.
"He obviously did well for us up at Norwich in the cup.
"I’ve experienced it as well at that age. You need to get out and play regular if you can.
"Figure out what it’s all about, getting ready from game to game. So it will be really good for him."
Saydee, who has scored once in six senior appearances for Cherries, has also previously spent time out on loan at Poole Town, Weymouth and Burton Albion.
