MATT Finlay's versatility earned glowing praise from Joe Roach as Cherries' youth team ran out 3-1 winners at Yeovil.

Finlay, usually a left-sided player, was put in the centre of the park in the absence of Joe Partington, who was on first-team duty. And the youngster's performance caught the eye of the club's head of youth Roach.

He said: "Matt Finlay was asked to do a job in the middle of the pitch and he did really well.

"He's played left-back, left midfield and in the centre of the pitch and done well. He went in with a great attitude.

"He could probably go into any position with his physique and athleticism."

Cherries took the lead after just 10 minutes when Rico Wilson and Jamie Davidson combined to set up Carl Preston.

Yeovil equalised in the 55th minute but quickfire strikes from Wilson and Danny Reeve - direct from a corner - sealed the win for Cherries.

A pleased Roach added: "I had to play one or two players in a slightly different role but they dealt with it really well.

"We were a little bit disjointed at times but got to grips with it in the second half and ran out fairly comfortably."
