REDCAR won the Championship League Pairs for the first time as Charles Wright and Lewis Kerr triumphed at Oxford.

The Bears duo secured a 7-2 in the final against Pirates, with their job in that race made much more straightforward when Pirates man Steve Worrall suffered mechanical trouble at the start, leaving Danny King on his own.

Redcar had beaten Glasgow in their semi-final, although former Poole star Benjamin Basso completed an unbeaten individual display for the Tigers, whilst Poole overcame Leicester in the other semi-final.

Bears co-promoter Jamie Swales said: “To win any national silverware is a proud moment but what a way to do it, they both were on it all night and they were the best performers on the night.

“Poole and Leicester rode really well, but I would have backed our guys over any of them.

“Out of all of the teams, our boys had the best team-riding and that was what it’s all about.”
