CHERRIES academy graduate Jack Simpson has joined Cardiff City – 18 months after a deal from Cherries to the Welsh capital fell apart.

The 25-year-old, who came through the academy set up at Cherries to make 11 Premier League appearances, departed the Vitality Stadium to join Scottish giants Rangers in January 2021.

Boss at the time, Jason Tindall, confirmed to the Daily Echo that Cherries had accepted a bid from Cardiff for Simpson, who instead opted to join Rangers.

In a season and half in Scotland, Simpson made 14 appearances for Rangers, including one Europa League game.

Speaking about joining the Bluebirds, Simpson told Cardiff’s website: "I'm very excited to join the club.

“I spoke to the manager about what he's trying to do here.

“I'm a ball-playing centre-half, and hopefully that'll suit the way the team are playing now.

"I'm excited to be here. I want to help the team and play in as many games as possible."
