LIVERPOOL boss Jurgen Klopp revealed defender Nat Phillips would “probably” be kept as cover on Merseyside, after an injury sustained to Ibrahima Konate.

Cherries have been linked with a move for centre-back Phillips all summer, the Bolton-born defender having helped them reach the Premier League during six months on loan last season.

Centre-back Konate injured a knee in a friendly against Strasbourg on Sunday, which Klopp admits will see the defender out “for a while”.

Asked whether that issue would have an influence on Phillips’s situation, and whether he would now need to keep him as cover, Klopp said: “Yeah, probably.

“It will influence the transfers. Outgoing transfers, I would say.”

Phillips, 25, played 17 Championship games for Cherries during the 2021-22 campaign, missing just one fixture after his arrival on loan from Anfield on transfer deadline day back in January.
