SCOTT Parker confirmed that new signings Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks will miss the opening day of the Premier League campaign due to injury.

The pair, who arrived at the Vitality Stadium on free transfers, are both back in training according to Parker.

Fredericks picked up a calf injury whilst Cherries were away in Portugal for a training camp, whilst Rothwell suffered a quad strain in the defeat to Bristol City.

Speaking on Fredericks’ injury situation ahead of the visit of Aston Villa, Parker shared: “The latest is he's on the grass now.

“He picked up an injury when we were in Portugal, a calf injury.

“It will be too quick for the weekend, he won't be ready for the weekend along with Joe Rothwell as well, which is disappointing.

“These are the two players obviously we brought in and both picked up knocks.

“Joe probably be a little bit longer than Ryan in where he is but like I said he's on the grass, he's progressing in the right way.

“He's moving slowly in the right steps, which is pleasing and hopefully over the coming weeks we can get him up to speed and get him in the team or around the team.”
