NEW recruit Marcus Tavernier reserved a message of thanks to Middlesbrough for the key role they have played in his career.

The 23-year-old swapped Teesside for Dorset this week, joining Cherries for an initial reported fee of £10million.

It brought to an end a near-decade long stay for Tavernier at Boro, the Leeds-born ace having joined at under-14 level.

Speaking to afcbTV upon completion of his switch to the south coast, Tavernier said: "I knew that this was something that I felt me and my family and my agents knew was the right step for me to take.

"But I've just got to thank everyone at Middlesbrough for the chance and the opportunity over the years, because without them as well, none of this would've been able to happen."

Asked if he had a message for the Cherries fans, Tavernier added: "I'd like to thank them for all the warm welcomes that I've got and I look forward to seeing them at the stadium.

"Hopefully we can have a good season."
