BOSS Scott Parker insisted summer signing Ryan Fredericks would be an “asset” to Cherries’ squad and added: “Hopefully we can get him fit.”

The 29-year-old was brought in on a free transfer from West Ham last month, agreeing a two-year deal with the Dorset outfit.

But Fredericks could be set to miss the start of the season, having not featured in pre-season contests against Braga and Bristol City due to a calf issue.

Parker, who said last weekend the injury would keep out the defender for “a couple of weeks”, believes his new recruit will have an impact when ready.

Speaking about Fredericks, he told the Daily Echo: “He’s someone who has been in the division and someone who compliments the team as well.

“When you are trying to recruit and you’re trying to build a team, there’s elements of people’s games that you want to try to bring in to give that compliment to the whole team.

“Ryan definitely brings that. Hopefully we can get him fit and he can be an asset to us.”
