CHERRIES have made a bid for Middlesbrough midfielder Marcus Tavernier, the Daily Echo understands.

The club are now waiting to hear back from the Teesside outfit.

The 23-year-old has been linked with the club for much of the summer, with a fee of £10million mooted for his services.

The Leeds-born talent came through the youth ranks at Newcastle United, before joining Boro at under-14 level in 2013.

Tavernier, a former England under-20 international, has made 155 first-team appearances for Middlesbrough, scoring 18 goals.

Two of those games came against Cherries in the Championship last season. The first goal of his senior career coincidentally came at Vitality Stadium, netting in a 3-1 defeat for Boro in the EFL Cup in October 2017.

Tavernier also spent time out on loan at MK Dons in 2018.

A report by MailOnline claims fellow newly-promoted Nottingham Forest have also made a bid for Tavernier, offering £10m.

Cherries have made two signings so far this summer, in free agents Joe Rothwell and Ryan Fredericks.

Meanwhile, the Echo understands Zeno Ibsen Rossi is close to completing a permanent move to Cambridge United.
