WIMBORNE Town boss James Stokoe stated that he is “really happy” with the club’s transfer business so far this summer, with the Magpies quick to secure 17 players for the upcoming season.

After relegation from the Southern Premier South last season, Magpies are looking for an immediate return to the seventh tier.

Notable additions include experienced defensive reinforcements in the form of Ashley Wells and Jordan Rose, whilst productive winger Luke Burbidge returns to the club after two years away at neighbours Poole Town.

Jack Hoey and Harry Baker offer further firepower, whilst Wimborne also managed to tie down a host of their young talents, including Lewis Beale and Harry Morgan.

Reflecting on his squad ahead of the start of pre-season, Stokoe told the club’s website: “I think if you look at the seventeen that we’ve got signed on at the moment, it is very, very competitive.

“We’ve got a good mix of the players that we kept from last year with the new boys that we have brought in.

“We’ve got good experience at the level, and a higher level with the players that we have brought in as well, so I think we’ve had a really good, productive summer on player recruitment.

“We looked back at last season, and there were lots of areas where we felt needed more experience and maybe a little bit more quality in certain positions, more players that were our own rather than loan players.

“We managed to act fairly quickly on that many players through the door. It is nice that we are going into pre-season next week with pretty much the basis of the squad all done.

“Really happy with what we’ve managed to do this early into the summer.”
