FORMER England centre-back Michael Dawson believes Cherries have "got the bones of a good squad" to compete in the Premier League, but added: "Their mindset has got to completely change."

Cherries are set to return to the top-flight, hosting Aston Villa on August 6, after clinching promotion under Scott Parker.

Assessing the challenge ahead for Cherries in his role as a pundit on Sky Sports, Dawson, a former teammate of Parker's at Tottenham and England, said: "I think he’s got the bones of a good squad.

"I think it’s about keeping this squad together, because when you do get promoted, you’ve got a certain togetherness and that gets you through difficult moments.

"And they will have difficult moments in the Premier League. Their mindset has got to completely change.

"They’re used to winning constantly in the Championship. In the Premier League, you’re going to go four or five (without winning) sometimes and you’ve got to be resolute, you’ve got to be strong.

"And for that, I think they’ve got to keep that group together and sprinkle a little bit of magic on it with some new signings."
