CHERRIES have announced the club’s new first-year scholars to join up with Alan Connell’s under-18s – two of which are the relations of football legends.

Defender Harry Redknapp, grandson of former Cherries boss Harry Redknapp, has made his way up to the squad, having first signed for the club as a seven-year-old.

The youngster joined the club’s academy under the watchful eye of Matty Holmes in 2014.

Redknapp junior is the son of Mark Redknapp, who played locally for non-league clubs Bashley and Dorchester as a central defender, and the nephew of Jamie Redknapp, the former Cherries and Liverpool star.

Mack Allan, the grandson of the late Alan Ball, who won the World Cup with England in 1966, is also part of the intake as a goalkeeper, having also risen through the ranks at the Dorset club since under-8s.

The duo will be joined by 10 others as first-year scholars.

Poole-born goalkeeper Noah Crisp is the other gloveman alongside Allan.

Jack Holman, Oliver Eagle, Ollie Morgan and Nat Boot are part of the defenders alongside Redknapp.

The new first-year scholar midfielders include Charlie Osborne and Karlos Gregory.

Remy Rees-Dottin can play on the wing or as a forward. Ashley Clarke and Jonny Stuttle are the two striking options joining Alan Connell’s squad.

A statement on the club’s website read: “Congratulations to all of the new first-year scholars on joining up with Connell’s under-18s and we look forward to watching their development continue with the Cherries.”
