STEVE Worrall and Richard Lawson both chalked up double-figure scores as Pirates took an impressive 45-45 draw away at fellow high-flyers Glasgow in the SGB Championship.

In a repeat of last season’s play-off final at Ashfield, Poole’s riders recorded no fewer than nine race victories between them north of the border.

With Pirates having trailed by six points after seven heats and led by six after 12 races, the contest was left on a knife edge going into heat 15 all square at 42-42.

Worrall and Lawson occupied the minor placings behind Glasgow number one Craig Cook in the finale, to ensure Poole picked up two SGB Championship points on the road.

Worrall (11+1) and Lawson (11) both led the charge for the Dorset club with visiting number one Danny King totalling nine points from four rides.

Guest reserve Dillon Ruml totalled 8+1 from a busy night of six rides in the absence of Drew Kemp, but with Zach Cook (6+2) also chipping in, Ben Cook and Nathan Ablitt failed to score for the visitors.

Craig Cook (10+1) led from the front for the Tigers, with Broc Nicol and former Pirate Ben Basso totalling seven points respectively.

Reflecting on the meeting, Pirates team boss Gary Havelock said: “It was one of those meetings where you just didn’t know which way it was going to go until the end.

“Coming here without Drew Kemp and getting a draw, I would have taken that before the meeting. If they’d have offered us a draw, I would have taken it.

“I think with a full team we are capable of winning here but, over two legs, I don’t think there’s many teams in the league that can live with us.

“I feel like everywhere we go we are capable of getting a result. With the three heat leaders we’ve got, on any given day they are going to get you 35 points, possibly 40.”

Former world champions Havelock also paid tribute to the work of guest Ruml at reserve.

“It was absolutely fabulous,” he added. “I’ve never worked with Dillon before, this is the first time I have really met him but he put a proper stint in.

“It was difficult with heat 14. Ben Cook was begging me to leave him in because he’d had three lasts and he didn’t want to go home with three lasts.

“But I just couldn’t do it because Dillon was going good."

Glasgow 45: Craig Cook 10+1, Justin Sedgmen 5+1, Ben Basso 7, Danyon Hume 5+2 Ulrich Ostergaard 5+1, Broc Nicol 7, Connor Bailey 6+2.

Poole 45: Danny King 9, Zach Cook 6+2, Steve Worrall 11+1, Ben Cook 0, Richard Lawson 11, Dillon Ruml 8+2, Nathan Ablitt 0.
