HAMWORTHY United have announced their first addition to the side ahead of their maiden Southern League campaign, with Sam Griffin arriving at the County Ground.

Tim Sills’ side flew to the Wessex Premier League title last time out, losing just one league game during a season that saw the Hammers reach the final four of the FA Vase.

Whilst Hammers currently boast numerous players with Southern League experience, the addition of Sam Griffin certainly has strengthened their side.

A skilful winger, Griffin has had numerous suitors from across the local region after he departed AFC Totton prior to the conclusion of the season.

The 30-year-old was a key part of the Poole Town side that reached the Southern Premier League play-off final in 2019.

Alongside Totton, Griffin will face another former employer in the form of Wimborne Town next campaign.

Aside from spells with Poole, Wimborne and Totton, Griffin also featured for nearby Blackfield & Langley in the Southern League.

The midfielder also had a stint at Wiltshire side Bemerton Heath Harlequins back in 2016.

Speaking on social media, Griffin stated: “(It was an) easy decision to join a team on the up.

“(I’m) looking forward to getting started.”

Announcing the move on Twitter, Hamworthy United stated: “A big welcome to our latest Hammer. We’re exceptionally pleased to be able to sign Sam, a sought after player after leaving Totton recently.

“‘Griff’ has all the attributes we look for when brining a player into our group.

“He’ll prove to be a great signing as we prepare ourselves for the Southern League.”
