CHERRIES have been linked with another Welsh international ahead of the start of the summer transfer window.

With Cherries’ promotion secured, fans’ focus has quickly switched to one of the busiest times of year – pre-season and the business that accompanies it.

Whilst the window does not open until June 10, clubs can begin preliminary talks and even agree deals. Any pre-arranged deals will see players wait until June 10 to be registered.

Cherries’ last transfer window as a busy one, with the club bringing in no fewer than seven players.

One player they did not manage to bring in was Derby County star and Wales international Tom Lawrence, with Cherries turning their attention to Todd Cantwell when he became available on a loan basis.

Lawrence’s fellow countryman Kieffer Moore did arrive on deadline day, with the 6ft 7in Welshman joining fellow international teammates Chris Mepham and David Brooks at the Vitality Stadium.

Interest from Cherries towards Lawrence has certainly called, even despite the fact his contract reportedly expires in a few months.

Instead, Cherries have now been linked with youngster Rabbi Matondo, who has made nine appearances for Wales.

That’s according to Football Insider, who also state that fellow promoted side Fulham are interested in the winger.

After a quite loan spell with Stoke City last campaign, the 21-year-old has found his feet in Belgium, with current loan club Cercle Brugge.

A former Manchester City youngster, Matondo’s parent club is German side Schalke, who were just promoted back to the Bundesliga.

Pacey and direct, Matondo is a little bit raw when it comes to finishing, but the ex-Cardiff City trainee has recorded his best goalscoring season this campaign, chipping in with 10 goals in 27 appearances in Belgium’s top flight.

Schalke parted with a reported £11 million to bring Matondo over to Germany back in 2019, indicating a rough idea of a potential fee, but any deal could be scuppered by the fact Cercle Brugge have an option to make the loan move permanent.
