WIMBORNE Town have tied down former Cherries youngster and youth coach Connal Morrison ahead of the 2022/23 campaign.

Morrison featured 35 times for Magpies as they were relegated from the Southern League’s top flight last campaign.

Originally a left-back as he came through the ranks at Cherries, Morrison has frequently been deployed as a midfielder during his stint at Wimborne.

After a brief stint in Northern Ireland with Portadown, Morrison had featured for both Blackfield & Langley and Dorchester Town in the Southern League.

Boss James Stokoe shared his delight about keeping Morrison, telling the club’s website: “I’m really pleased Connal has decided to stay with us next season.

“His work rate, determination and desire is fantastic.

“Most importantly he’s a winner and we need players in the team with Connal’s attitude.”

With Magpies finishing rock bottom of the Southern League Premier South, Morrison shared that he was keen to help the club return back to the division, with the midfielder stating: “I wanted to stay at the club for the coming season, purely because of the people we have in and around the club.

“Although results haven’t gone our way last season, the efforts and resources that everyone’s put into the club shows the direction of where we want to go next season.

“My main target for next year, and I’m sure it’ll be the same for most of the players and staff, is to try my upmost to get the club promoted back to the league where we belong.”
