POOLE TOWN consigned a forgettable season to the history books with a late flurry of goals as they beat play-off bound Metropolitan Police 5-2.

Met took an 18th minute lead when Herson Alves pounced on a mix-up between stalwart Jamie Whisken and goalkeeper Mark Childs at the back, before goals in the second-half from Will Fletcher and Declan Rose gave Dolphins the lead shortly after the hour mark.

Shkyler Burrowes must have thought he had salvaged a point when he equalised in 88th minute, but Poole had other plans.

Tony Lee grabbed his ninth brace of the season in injury time, with two goals sandwiching an effort from Luke Pardoe.

Boss Tom Killick named an unchanged line-up from the side the beat local rivals Wimborne 4-2 in Monday’s Cross Stour derby, with Lee leading the line despite being dismissed in the fixture.

Poole’s leading goalscorer was available to play due to suspensions in the seventh tier kicking in a week after the offence was committed.

With Poole consigned to a midtable spot and Met Police unmovable in fourth, it appeared that the final game of the season would largely be a non-event.

Dolphins huffed and puffed a few times but were unable to test Liam Beach in the Met Police goal, whilst the away side were content to sit back and hit the hosts on the break.

That is how the first goal came about, with a ball over the top proving troublesome for Whisken and Childs. Captain Whisken hesitated, allowing Alves to seize on the ball and fire home.

The game followed the same pattern of the early stages, with Poole probing whilst Met Police laid in wait of an opportunity on the counter.

Poole looked decent with multiple headers, but the home side were unable to properly test Beach.

It would be a header for Poole’s equaliser early in the second half.

Harry Hutchinson advanced from his left-back position to whip into the box and find the head of Fletcher.

Rose put Poole ahead 10 minutes later, latching onto a rebound to place home into the empty net.

The game quietened down until it reached its climax, when Burrowes popped up to restore parity.

Rather than mope about the fact match official Michael Ryan had seemingly impeded Poole from stopping Burrowes, Poole promptly put themselves back into the lead after the restart.

Lee was on hand to emphatically turn home substitute Addwell Chipangura’s cross, boosting his tally to 33 league goals.

Chipangura was provider for Pardoe shortly after, against cutting in from the left to tee up the former Cherries youngster.

Shellshocked by the late flurry, Met Police put up no resistance when Lee blasted home his second to make it five.
