POOLE Town boss Tom Killick is wary that Wimborne Town will be somewhat of a wounded animal when he takes his side across the Stour on Easter Monday.

It has been a disappointing season for clubs in the East of Dorset, with Poole’s playoff ambitions giving way to mid-table mediocrity, whilst the Magpies failed to beat the drop.

Killick, who helped Wimborne to their finest honour by scoring twice in their FA Vase final win in 1992, is hoping his side can record a first double in the Cross Stour derby since the 2012-13 season.

Will Spetch’s hat-trick back on New Year’s Day sealed a 3-0 win in their previous league meeting at the Black Gold Stadium.

Speaking ahead of the Bank Holiday clash, Killick told the Daily Echo: “When you look at it, people say we've had a bad season, but when you look at their financial resources, sometimes people have to be a little bit careful what they wish for.

“As I say, they’ve probably got bigger financial sources than us, we finished where we finished, we're disappointed.

“But sometimes you've got to be a little bit intelligent in how you look at these things.”

Despite the 39 point gap between the two sides, Killick believes Wimborne will be keen to inflict defeat on Poole to restore some pride and secure the bragging rights in the process.

“However bad they've been,” Killick continued.

“Obviously it's an absolute disaster from their point of view to throw the resources they have at it, and finish rock bottom. It's an absolute disaster.

“I'm sure there's a sort of embarrassment and a huge disappointment from their end.

“But a one off game against us, they'll think that their mindset really is such that they'll probably think that that will mean something in the bigger picture.

“So we have to be aware of that.”
