TODD Cantwell is getting used to life under Scott Parker at Cherries – with the Norwich City loanee believing that the former England international is helping him to become a “better footballer.”

After being frozen out at Carrow Road by Daniel Farke and his replacement Dean Smith, Cantwell has quickly established himself as a first-team regular at the Vitality Stadium.

During his career so far, Cantwell has largely played under just one manager, Farke.

In fact, the 24-year-old is yet to reach double-digits for appearances under any manager other than former Norwich boss Farke, for whom he played over 100 times after making his Norwich debut under the German in January 2018.

Since arriving on the south coast on deadline day, Cantwell has made nine appearances for the Cherries. Under Parker, he believes he has found a similar manager to the his first boss in senior football.

Recounting his experiences under Farke and now Parker, Cantwell still views his spell under the German with fondness, despite the rocky end to the relationship.

The former England under-21 international told the Daily Echo: “I think I've had a fantastic experience with my first manager in Daniel Farke at Norwich.

“No matter what happened, we had a fantastic time together and he really helped develop me.

“I think since I've been here, I felt a very similar feeling with the manager.

“It's just a manager that wants and see something, that I can become a better footballer.”

Usually deployed as a left-winger during his time at Norwich, at Cherries Cantwell has played most of his football in a more central position.

Cantwell credited his manager with assisting him not only with his ambitions, but also with getting to grips with his new role within a Cherries side gunning for promotion.

Dereham-born Cantwell believes that his “best football” is just around the corner, with the midfield yet to fully get up to speed with his new position.

“I've got ambitions, and he knows that, everyone knows that you want to fulfil them and he is helping me, he's helping me understand the game.

“He's helping me with my positional, because obviously positioning-wise I have changed.

“It's just a matter of time before I start playing my best football and I'll definitely have him to thank for that.”

Cantwell and Cherries are next in action this weekend, when they host Bristol City.

Cherries are currently second place in the Championship, with 69 points from 36 games. Parker’s men know they need just 19 points from their final 10 games to secure a return to the Premier League.
