HAMWORTHY United boss Tim Sills is now allowing talk of his team’s Wembley dream becoming a reality, as they moved just one game away from the FA Vase final.

In front of a bumper crowd of 741 at the County Ground on Saturday, Sills admitted he thought his side’s chances of progression to the semi-finals of the competition may have gone, after quarter-final opponents Southall netted the opener with five minutes remaining.

But Max Wilcock came up with a dramatic last-gasp equaliser to make it 1-1, after Steve Devlin’s corner was flicked on.

And former Dorchester Town keeper Shane Murphy pulled off a pivotal save in the resulting penalty shootout – meaning the Dorset club progressed 7-6 on spot-kicks.

And Sills, who featured three times at Wembley as a player, is now dreaming of a monumental occasion at the iconic venue once again.

He told BBC Radio Solent: “It is a fantastic achievement.

“We broke the club record getting into the last 16 – we’re now into the last four and it’s up to us now to go and make even more history and get to the arch.

“People say ‘do you talk about Wembley?’ Yes, I do now because, now this is the great prize. We are as close as we can be – why not go and do it?”

Apart from a place in the semi-finals, Hamworthy also received £4,125 in prize money for the triumph.

Littlehampton, who vanquished Hamworthy’s Wessex Premier League rivals Brockenhurst in an earlier round, are also in the hat, whilst Loughborough University and Newport Pagnell make up the semi-finalists.

The draw for the semi-finals will be made on Monday at 3.15pm on TalkSPORT2.

Speaking about their seventh win in the Vase this season, Sills added: “In terms of the actual game I thought they probably shaded it as the better side if I’m honest. They had the better chances.

“When they went 1-0 up, I looked around at our players and genuinely thought that we were probably done.

“But this group has been put together, not only for their quality but because of their character and they never know when to give in.

“Pulling it back to go to penalties – everyone hates penalties really but I would have taken penalties all day long at that point.

“You just can’t describe what it means to the club going forward. The last four and it is back from the brink.”
