TOM Killick is on the hunt for his fifth Dorset Senior Cup win as Poole Town boss, as his charges take on local rivals Hamworthy United tonight in the final (kick-off 7.45pm).

Dolphins will travel across the Twin Sails bridge to face Wessex Premier Hamworthy, who are enjoying a fine season on multiple fronts.

Tim Sills’ side sit top of the Wessex Prem, whilst also having advanced to the quarter-finals of the FA Vase.

The Hammers beat Wimborne Town, who play in the same division as Poole, in the semi-final of the Dorset Senior Cup to set-up the tie with Poole, indicating that the fact Poole sit two divisions higher will not mean victory is assured.

With the game set to be hosted at Hamworthy’s County Ground home, there will be an air of doubt for Killick and co. due to the fact the Hammers are unbeaten at home for 36 games in a row.

When asked if victory in the Dorset Senior Cup would serve as a tonic for Poole’s disappointing season, Killick told the Daily Echo: “I think the league is still the be-all and end-all, but the Dorset Senior Cup is a competition we've always taken relatively seriously.

“So now we’re in the final, we put quite a lot of commitment into the competition, so we want to try see it through and win it.

“Hamworthy are a strong side, they've got a winning habit.

“They're very different to what they were a few years ago in terms of financially they’ve got people on contract and a lot of good players.

“The financial landscape seems to have changed there quite significantly in the last two or three years, and they're a much stronger outfit than they used to be.

“So it'll be a tough game for us.”

Hamworthy will be looking for their first victory in the final for 16 years, last winning the competition in 2006 when they beat Poole in the final 2-1.

Whilst fresh into his career as a manager, Sills won the tournament twice whilst at Weymouth in 2015 and 2016.

The sides have met at this stage three times in total, with Poole victorious in 1998 and 2014. Dolphins last won the competition in 2019, when they thumped Wimborne 5-0 in the final.
