PIRATES promoter Danny Ford admitted Oxford’s move to appoint Jason Crump as team manager for 2022 “helps bring a few more eyes to the Championship”.

Three-time world champion Crump, who rode for Plymouth in the second tier last season, was announced as the Cheetahs’ team boss last month as they make their return to British Speedway.

Asked about the 46-year-old’s appointment, Ford told the Daily Echo: “Crumpy is an absolute legend of the sport, so the fact he is going to come in and be managing Oxford gives them that extra little advantage.

“But also, it helps bring a few more eyes to the Championship I believe.

“It’s a masterstroke move from Oxford and I wish them all the best.”

The Cheetahs are back in action for the first time since 2007 and seven-time British Champion Scott Nicholls is also set to ride for them as captain.

Poole are set to welcome Oxford to Wimborne Road on Friday, April 15.
