SCOTT Parker insists he can "understand" a section of Cherries fans booing after defeat to Hull City, but added: "These are the moments when you need people behind you."

Despite dominating the first half against Grant McCann's Tigers, Cherries were beaten 1-0 after a Ryan Longman strike 13 minutes from time.

At full time, some boos were heard, particularly from the Steve Fletcher Stand as Cherries slipped to back-to-back losses, with Fulham now eight points clear at the top of the Championship.

Asked what his message would be to supporters who booed at full-time, Parker told the Daily Echo: "I can understand that from the way the team were in the second half, of course I can.

"I think I've said it before that these are the moments when you need people behind you a little bit. I get sometimes why that might not be the case. When you see certain traits or certain things happening. I get human instinct, it is sometimes very difficult to do that (support).

"But I can't control the fans. We can't control the fans. We can help them along the way. But obviously it's down to us.

"It's down to the 11 to go out there and perform and entertain in certain moments and give them that feeling to help us on.

"I’d love to give them a part of me is that in these moments, this is when we need them most."

He continued: "But I understand they came here today, like we all did, like I did, wanting to win a football match.

"I understand they came here today, like we all did, like I did as well, wanting to win a football match.

"I never expect to win a football match, no matter what the competition is or who you're playing against, it’s never a given. But I get their frustration."
