JORDAN Zemura’s AFCON dreams look to be ended prematurely, as Zimbabwe slumped to a second defeat at the tournament.

A gutsy performance against Sadio Mane’s Senegal ended in last-minute heart-break as the Liverpool star converted a 96th minute penalty, but the defeat to lowly Malawi was in huge contrast.

Cherries starlet Zemura missed Zim’s opener due to COVID, and was only deemed fit enough to start the defeat to Malawi on the bench.

Despite coming on to the field in the second half, Zemura couldn’t help his country overcome a resolute Malawi side, meaning Zimbabwe sit bottom of Group B with one game left.

Guinea and Senegal played out a 0-0 draw, meaning they sit joint top.

There is a small glimmer of hope for the Warriors, however, as the four best 3rd place teams will still advance.

That appears unlikely, as it would involve Zimbawe beating a much more fancied Guinea side, and Malawi losing comfortably to a Senegal side that has only scored once at the tournament.

On top of that, Zimbabwe would rely on results in other groups in order to advance.
