PROMOTER Danny Ford insisted Poole could not fit Danyon Hume into their 2022 team plans due to averages but added: “I’d have no hesitation in working with him again.”

Hume was announced as a member of Glasgow’s septet for next season, despite having helped Pirates seal a league and cup double in 2021.

Part of British Speedway’s rising star initiative last campaign, Hume improved his average enough to move into the main body of Pirates’ line-up.

And despite the former Leicester man joining the Tigers for next season, Ford insisted the relationship between the pair was still positive.

He told the Daily Echo: “We did explain to Danyon that he wouldn’t fit into our team plans for this season.

“We explained that to him quite early on to give him the best opportunity to pick up another team. I think the very next day he got his team place sorted.

“I am delighted for him. Danyon was absolutely fantastic for us last season. He was a real star and an absolute gentleman.

“I am absolutely over the moon that he has picked up a team place at Glasgow. It’s a good club and I’m sure they will look after him there.

“He wanted to be back but we had to explain to him the averages just wouldn’t work and we couldn’t fit him in this year.

“Hopefully in the future we can see him back in Poole colours.

“I actually saw him a few weeks ago. He was down here seeing some of his sponsors and he stopped in for a cup of tea.

“We had a good chat. I’d have no hesitation in working with him again in the future. We will see how things work out.”

At the time of writing, Pirates are yet to announce any of their riders for the 2022 campaign.
