WIMBORNE Town finally secured their first league win at their new home by beating Gosport Borough 2-1 at New Cuthbury, reports Graham Dunn.

Bouwe Bosma was handed his first Wimborne start against his former employers, with fellow mid-week signing Dan Bartlett starting the game on the bench.

It was the visitors in yellow who made the better start, but it was Magpies who would take the lead on 26 minutes.

Lewis Beale picked out Harry Morgan from the right by-line for his fellow attacker to score his seventh of the season from close-range.

On 38 minutes Wimborne needed a brilliant save from Alex Cull to keep their slender lead intact.

Tom Bragg, who had another good game paired with Dan Strugnell in central defence, was adjudged to have used his hand attempting to control the ball on the very edge of the penalty area.

Rory Williams' strike beat the wall, only for the flying Cull to divert the goal-bound shot round the post.

Wimborne extended their lead twelve minutes after the restart. As Morgan chased a seeming lost cause down the left wing, he closed in on Ryan Woodford, with Gosport’s skipper attempting to bring the attacker down.

With Woodford unsuccessful and advantage played, Morgan took the loose ball forward, sliding the ball across the goal area for Curtis Young to score.

It was a double whammy for the visitors when, in the ensuing discussions, referee Richard Lawrence showed Woodford a red card.

Despite going down to ten men, Gosport pressured Wimborne throughout. The pressure paid, as on 79 minutes, Luke Hallett tucked a free-kick home at the back-post.

Four minutes later, another free-kick almost denied Magpies a historic win - Dan Wooden netted, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside by an eagle-eyed linesman.

Victory was not enough to move Magpies off the foot of the table, but three points puts them within striking distance of Merthyr Town – with Wimborne enjoying the advantage of two games in hand to overcome the one-point gap.
