WIMBORNE belied their lowly league position to take a point against high-flying Met Police at Imber Court, writes Graham Dunn.

Goals from loanees Ahkeem Rose and Xander McBurnie twice brought the visitors level in an entertaining 2-2 Southern League Premier South draw.

With their clever rotation of attackers, it was the home side who opened the scoring on 20 minutes.

The ever-dangerous Jack Mazzone’s shot was blocked only for the rebound to fall to Sam De St Croix, who beat Alex Cull from the edge of the area.

Wimborne stayed in the game and equalised just after the half-hour mark.

Billy Maybury hit a trade-mark diagonal from left to right, Lewis Beale instantly played a cushioned low cross into the danger area where Rose netted from close range.

However, the euphoria of parity being restored was short-lived. In Met’s next attack, the ball came to Mazzone in space on the edge of the penalty area. He looked up, picked his spot, and rifled the ball beyond Cull into the corner - a superb strike.

But James Stokoe’s side responded once again in the opening period. Jack Torniainen's cross, from another Maybury diagonal, won a corner on the right.

Maybury ran across to take it. As a mass of players challenged, a bouncing ball came to McBurnie in the area, who showed great technique as he volleyed, the ball took a slight deflection and beat goalkeeper Liam Beach.

There was nearly another for the hosts on 41 minutes when Oliver Robinson's header from a free-kick hit Cull's post.
